Little Bitty Life Update

My heart is full. Filled to the top. Overflowing!!

Coming back from a month long of home fabulousness is hard to bounce back from. It takes amazing people to get your head in the right place, classes to keep you engaged, and a healthy mindset overall to start another several months with two positive feet in.

My first day back was welcomed with a tumble in the snow in front of you know, EVERYONE, a hiccup with my schedule, and a too-warm green smoothie. My blog is nowhere near where I want it to be and I have one million and ten things on my small plate that need to be finished.

With all of these things looking like spaghetti in my brain, I cannot help but stop and look around at the people that are not only filling my heart, but making it overflow. These friends that I have made are the exact people I needed. Tonight at one of our Wednesday night E3 talks, I left thanking God for the special friends He knew would give Image-1-19me a spark of fire in faith and life.

I met with my advisor and am right on track for such an LEP career (keeping it to myself for a while). She helped me get excited and make me feel like I am absolutely in the place I need to be for my heart to dive into other hearts!

As far as the snow fall and hot smoothie, well those things are the ones that I get to laugh about and walk right past. My 2018 is going to be fabulous, and I am so so excited to stay keep my blog updated as I live out This Fab Life.

Semester One, at its fab-best

Let’s talk about Semester one at Mizzou. I’ll let you in on my

Top 10 for the past few months:

  1. Living in an apartment with a fun favorite:   I adored my little apartment and the adult life that comes with living in your own space. Coming home to cook was probably my favorite part, while my least favorite was not having my mom to cook right beside me! Living in my own house for marriage one day without her? HOW! Nicole, the fab favorite roommate I scored, was a blast! Half of our nights ended with a dance party and the other half ended knee deep in Youtube videos laughing our booties off.
  2. Game Days:  If you know, you know. Game days are the best! An entire day devoted to friends and festivities outside supporting a school that you just love. I mean, there was honestly no better way to push off studying for Econ. Also, I cannot pass up the opportunity to mention that one of my favorite parts was having an excuse to wear black for so many weekends in a row. But also like, yes it’s me and I love shopping so new outfits were the reason I ate oatmeal for dinner because I have my priorities straight!
  3. Dinner Dates:   2 hours 2 hours 2 hours. My family came to visit a few times and here is how it went. They would take me to get something other than oatmeal for dinner, my mom would clean my entire apartment before she left, and they’d fill my cup with the biggest hugs until I got to see them next. I can’t ask for more than that.
  4. Sleepovers:  Ashley! Madelyn! Libby! Theresa & Hannah! Alexis! Oh my! Hosting my friends was such a fun thing to do! My OCD would be beeping at a constant 10 with allthethings out of order and kicking responsibilities to the curb, but I pulled a “messes clean up” and enjoyed their company! Also, I solemnly swear to never let you leave without breakfast in the morning! Each friend was oh so fabulous and I am oh so thankful to have them.
  5. Late night studying + allllthegoldfish:   Studying was studying, but it became fun. Until finals rolled around, and I started questioning what I had been doing the entire semester, I figured out that the majority of my nights were distracted by Nicole and our previously mentioned Youtube video threads. Also goldfish. Cue the addition of fun to studying.
  6. Visiting Truman:   Alpha formal with Madelyn is a date I will never miss. We dressed up, had A LOT of fun, and ordered a pizza in the middle of night. Our time together is a hoot and we have learned to cherish the spaced out time together. Roommates never die.
  7. Meeting uhhhmazing new people:  Through Newman and friends of friends, I have met THE best people. I just adore their hearts and the way they have welcomed me into their lives. Transferring isn’t the easiest, but the people I have met along the way have made college so fun.
  8. Strengthening my faith:   My faith has been so fun to grow this semester at Newman. Between mass, bible study, and random nights, I have been brought into a community of people I see God through. The opportunities and experiences I have been able to take part in because of my faith has taught me about immense necessities in life.
  9. Tuesday Updates:   This semester I created a little video on Snapchat I like to call Tuuuesday Uuupdates. It is about a minute long video of me chatting about absolutely nothing. I don’t know why I enjoy it so much, but they continue to make my Tuesday’s much more fun! Look out for fun videos coming to your phone every Tuesday! IMG_2057
  10. SMILING the entire time:   When you can call your mom and tell her that you just can’t stop smiling while walking to class, you know you’re in the right place. From the tiny things to the big things, I had a smile on my face and enjoyed every little detail in between.

This past semester at Mizzou was everything I prayed for and more! While I was at Truman, things were different and hard and stressful. I did not feel at home, and most importantly my smile was not real and my heart was not full. My big change felt drastic, and I was nervous that it wouldn’t meet my expectations; but it surpassed them by a long shot. I cannot even begin to look at my prayers a year ago and see how God answered them with FABULOUS friends and fab surroundings that are shaping This Fab Life.

A Prayer, The Thank You Kind

College. College is hard. It turns out that change is more constant than routine, giving our lives a rather fluid consistency. Friends that I have just met this year are coming in and out, grades are… well, out the window, but “good” can serve its purpose when asked, and home is just a few miles too far away. Like I said, it’s hard. The one constant that always remains? He has been there for me when other people have not (or when mom just doesn’t have enough time to squeeze a road trip into her Tuesday lunch). God — good old God.

God,

Thank you for my people. I love them. I love them a lot!

Thank you for the people that have not stayed in my life. They taught me things about myself, and I needed to meet them.

Thank you for keeping me grounded in college.

Thank you for letting me make mistakes. I’m learning that learning curves are my best curves.

Thank you for the days when you know I need a Netflix episode in bed so my teachers relax on homework (which could come more often if You were wondering.)

Thank you for my heart, that I try to give to everyone, but keep for myself when I know I should.

Thank you for my planner. I’m fully aware that it is irrelevant because You have a mind of Your own, but it looks pretty and makes me think I have it all together.

Thank you for leading me through life with a plan. A plan that I would love to know every detail of and write it in my pretty calendar for next year, but cannot. It simply does not work that way, and I will eventually come to terms with it (But for now, I’m going to just let You keep ruining them- apparently it’s more fun that way).

Thank you for motivation and determination.

Thank you for FaceTime and texting.

Thank you for children.

Thank you for wise (old) people to teach us all they know.

Thank you for dogs. Puppies in particular, but they are all pretty cute.

Thank you for hot showers on rainy days.

Thank you for my smile, her smile, his smile, and all of their smiles. (Some of Your best work, in my opinion).

Thank you for the power to further knowledge every single day. Just when I think I’m getting super smart, I go and learn something new.

Thank you for ALL the coffee to get me through the paper I waited last minute to write.

Thank you for a good grade on the previously mentioned, extremely procrastinated, paper.

Thank you for keeping me safe.

Thank you for chocolate. And ice cream — don’t forget the ice cream.

Thank you for my role models to guide me through life.

Thank you for my health.

Thank you for books and stories to captivate our thoughts.

Thank you for the beauty within the earth, itself.

Thank you for the sunshine, the clouds, the rain, and the thunderstorms that remind us that You are indeed still up there.

Thank you for the bed that lets me dream my dreams and stay up past midnight thinking my thinks.

Thank you for opportunities — ALL of them.

Thank you for french fries — the crinkly ones.

Thank you for the beach that gives me all the feels.

Thank you for my memories. I love them.

Thank you for blessing me in so many ways.

God, most importantly, thank you, thank you, thank you for listening.

The most sincere thank you’s do not have to be the deepest. It is true that many people think a prayer must be the rosary on your knees. Well, I am here to tell you that I talk to God probably 101 times a day, and trust me, I’m not on my knees!! It’s kind of like shooting your high school BFF that “Happy Wednesday!! I miss you!” text. Every person’s prayer is different, but it’s the actual prayer that counts. How the message gets to God does not matter. Clouds are my trigger. A sky full of beautiful clouds instantly sends a little thank you card up to The Big Guy from me.

I’m grateful. And oh boy, I’m so, so thankful.

What are you thankful for?
