I MIZ You!

The weekend before last, I went to Mizzou and oh my goodness was it fun!

My Big & travel buddy, Grayson, and I left Kirksville for our people in Columbia right after class. The amount of bags I had for 2 days was excessive, but hey I’ve never regretted being prepared for every occasion. She was spending the weekend with her twin, and I was moving in with Annie, a best friend from high school.

You see, I live in a very exclusive bubble in Kirksville. The biggest decision of the day is whether I’ll have Greek yogurt or almonds for my morning snack. And whichever one I don’t have, I’ll eat in the afternoon. So when I arrived in Columbia, I was thrilled to see all of the shops and restaurants. The feeling of jealousy was also creeping through.

I pulled into a 15-minute parking spot to give Annie all the hugs and excitement for the weekend ahead of us. We had seriously missed each other SO MUCH. So far, so good- but if everything went smooth, this would be boring right? Right. I went to move my car, and it was flat stuck in park. I called a few people, but this thing was not moving. Now, if you think we were going to address a broken car before continuing our fun and planned out weekend you are dead wrong. We locked the car and prayed for it to be there in the morning  #Seeya.

Our concert started at 7, but we were just sitting down to a dining hall meal and calling an uber around 7:10. Classic. Florida Georgia Line gave us all the feels as we danced and sang to every song! We were having such a fabulous time, to say the least, and the people around us could attest. The night did not end there because of course I needed to see what all the rave of Mizzou is. (Don’t worry, I did- I certainly did.)

The next morning (praise Jesus) my car was still there! We miraculously moved it to the parking garage and I caught lunch with some fun dudes. They showed me around and brought me back to Annie, where we laid on the floor of her room for hours and hours just plain talking. Oh, how I’ve missed these friends and the happiness they bring to my life.

Dinner came and went and we turned our wild night out to a perfect night in. We put on our jammies and discovered Gooey Butter Cake ice cream with delivered Hot Box cookies. We all know I would choose good friends and sweets over a loud crowd any day all day. But seriously, if Annie would have said we’re going to a Prom, I would have pulled a ball gown out of my Mary Poppins bag- THAT is how prepared I was.

My last day arrived and I had to deal with this car- this dreaded car. I made a trip to the parking garage, with one too many bags, to pull out my keys. Or should I say my key chains? The only thing I had was my puffball and pineapple- the key was gone. As in G-O-N-E, gone. Not only was my car most likely stuck in park, but I couldn’t even start it to see!

A quick call to mom, and in two short hours she was there! Lunch in Columbia and then a drive back to Kirksville. Seriously WHAT would I do without her? I balled when she had to leave me, but she did get me fruit and coffee before she made the departure, so I’d call it even.
All in all my weekend at Mizzou was beyond fun. I loved catching up with my friends, popping the Kirksville bubble, and getting to see my mom was just the icing on the cake. Weekends like these that turn straight into memories are what makes life fabulous. And oh how fabulous it is.

R x3

Well hi there 2017, my name is Lindsey, and I am ecstatic to meet you. Each New Year brings me the greatest gifts I could ever ask for- my 3 favorite R’s: Relaxation, Resolutions, and Routine! I thrive on routine and after October, everyone seems to throw this necessary way of living out the window in search of mantle Santas and the perfect Thanksgiving turkey.

There are not many complaints for this past year. Another extremely enjoyable twelve months doing the things I love with my favorite people. Honestly, what more could you ask for? Yep, nothing!

2017 is coming in hot with lots on the agenda. As a fitness enthusiast, a lot of my goals have to do with introducing new workouts and healthy recipes, but my favorites are the goals to try and make mine and others lives better. To be a well rounded person with a fabulous year, you must be fit socially, mentally and physically.

My 17 in 2017:

  1. Stay Positive #ChooseHappy
  2. Drink more water
  3. Spend more time with friends
  4. Cut back on the sugar sugar sugar
  5. Run another Half Marathon
  6.  Listen
  7. Go to sleep at a reasonable hour. {2AM makes life rough}
  8. Take more naps- hey, changing the sleep schedule will be hard
  9. Study x2
  10. Text less- call more
  11. Stay organized
  12. Make time for others
  13. Don’t overthink/ quit the worry
  14. Read more
  15. Yoga & relax
  16. Make Mass a priority
  17. Smile and then smile again

My motivation and determination comes from the goals I set at the beginning of the year. This upcoming year has all the potential in the world to become everything you want it to. Stick with your goals and make them happen. Choose the happiness you want in your life and spread it to others. Cheers to a fabulous 2017.

A day in the life.

Let me tell you about this little thing called college life. I think I’m obsessed.

Now I know my blog is supposed to be about a healthy lifestyle and you are wondering when I am going to tell you about workouts and the healthy food I am eating. Which, yes, eventually that will come, but right now I am living a different healthy lifestyle. One in that I am managing my stress, making new friends, and having fun. Oh, and learning! (Almost forgot that one.) It is true that I have always been a family girl, so this new change for me was not expected to go so smoothly. Like seriously no one would have guessed this. BUT thankfully, everything has fallen into place and my adjustment to independence has been nothing but perfect.

The past few weeks have been insane. Insanely busy. Insanely stressful. Insanely fabulous.

First, Rush. Truman does not rush until after Labor Day, so I honestly had not met that many people yet. On the first day of recruitment, I met so many new girls, and had a smile on my face the entire time. Of course, I loved all of the sororities, but followed my heart right to the Alphas. It has been brought to my attention that Alpha Sigma Alpha is the best damn sorority on campus, and I cannot help but agree. I fell in love with these girls and everything about this fabulous organization. In one day, I went from having four friends on campus to over 100. After bid day, I walked down the street smiling at my new people, thinking omg I’m one of them now. Needless to say,  I am ecstatic and cannot wait to embrace every minute of this.

Okay so I’m in a sorority now, but I promise I do other things. I study. I workout. I  study. I study. No, but seriously I am always doing something. These “naps” that other college humans speak of have not found their way to Lindsey yet. I will walk in my door with my roommate in the exact same place that I left her like “Uhh ..yeah. Hey, do you even go to class?” My classes are not that hard, which I am unbelievably grateful for because the time management thing is tricky to get a handle on.

Fortunately, I have made time in my busy schedule to workout almost every single day. I found a few classes that I really like, and make it a priority to fit them in. Being active and sweating helps me to reset for a focused evening of homework. At first, I could not find the treadmills, but don’t worry I found them. They were behind all of the guys in the weight room checking themselves out every second they can. {eye roll}.

On a different note, I have worn a uniform the last 13 years of my life, so I am being dead serious when I say one of the hardest things is waking up and picking out an outfit. I need my plaid back. When I cam back from Labor day, a major extension was added to the closet that cannot take anymore extensions. The best part? It all smelled like home. I’m sorry, that’s a lie- the best part is that it’s all cute, really cute. So laundry. You want to know if I do it? HA!! Yes, every once in a while I walk to the room next to me filled with huge machines known for cleaning one’s clothes. Well, they are liars. They do not work. Now, I am not sure if it is because I did not put five of those pod things in or the fact that I was two minutes late to my finished dryer and some impatient animal living among me had thrown all of them on the floor. I mean seriously, two minutes!!!

Lastly, my people back at home (and one in Alabama).  Did you honestly think I would finish a blog post without mentioning them? Yes, I miss them, but I get a care package in the mail every two days and eat dinner with them almost every night. Through FaceTime, that is. These things get me through. Also, their spontaneous visits to Kirksville- those get me through too. We figured out that Kirksville is actually the most boring town in all the land, but we enjoyed all the minutes. Every single one. (As for the one in Alabama- He and I are currently running on FaceTime dates until 4am and the exchange of surprise Jimmy Johns deliveries).

To give you a visual of how much I love college, I am in the library listening to my favorite “feel good” songs, writing about how much I love college. Who does that? Even if my laundry is on the floor, I am grateful to have this routine down, enjoy friends, and fit a workout in every day. Fabulously Fit takes work, so that is exactly what I am doing. I am working. Working on my life.
